Shepparton’s Winter City Market a blast! A blast of bitter winter weather couldn’t deter traders and shoppers from participating in this year's Winter City Market on 24 and 25 August. Traders from Shepparton's CBD and beyond set up stalls with terrific bargains, and free children's rides and entertainers provided a carnival atmosphere for shoppers.

Supported by Greater Shepparton City Council and Shepparton Show Me, the goal of the market was to bring people into Shepparton's CBD to see what local business had to offer, and according to Team Leader Business and Industry Development Geoff Hay, it achieved just that.

"The traders were out in force, and so were the shoppers. The free rides and face-painting for kids were a great hit," Mr Hay said. "We got off to a slow start on Friday morning because of the cold and rain, but by 10.30am the mall was bubbling, and was consistently busy all day Friday and through Saturday too.

"The majority of traders I spoke to were very happy with the events we organised to support their efforts, and the proof was in the pudding - the Mall was much busier than it would otherwise have been any other Friday or Saturday, and there was a great atmosphere."

Mayor Michael Polan said Cr Polan said that events like the market provided another dimension to Council's commitment to revitalising the CBD.

"Making our CBD an even better place to shop requires a joint effort, and the Winter City Market is an encouraging example of that," he said.
