There is no doubt that the Greater Shepparton economy is in a state of change.

However with change comes great opportunity and it is essential to regularly take note of who is giving it a go in business and making a greater future for themselves in Shepparton. An example is Peter Law's Australian Independent Rural Retailers or commonly known as AIRR which has its headquarters here in  Greater Shepparton.

Australian Independent Rural Retailers (AIRR) was established in 2006 by Peter Law in rural Victoria. Growing up and working in the Shepparton area from a young age, Peter's philosophy was that a ‘country' business should have genuine customer dealings and relationships, with a mantra on supporting Australian farming communities. This idea led the way for a retail member based buying group that supports Australian independent rural retailers known as AIRR. Typically their members would distribute farming goods such as stockfeed, boots and other relevant goods.

AIRR was developed by creating a unique business operating model. The key principles of the business are developing fruitful relationships with their stakeholders to ensure that there is benefit for all. All customers are treated with respect and honesty. This idea has ultimately paid off as the business is generating $300 million dollars in revenue and has membership base of 150 members, 8 warehouses across Australia and 85 employees.

It is encouraging to see such a successful enterprise competing on the national stage against major players whilst still proudly headquartered in the Greater Shepparton region.
