A group of Shepparton orchardists were drinking imported cider together when they came to the realisation that there was the potential to create a local cider from their own backyard.

An endless debate on how to produce a great local product occurred and the outcome was a new pear and apple cider appropriately called ‘Too Many Chiefs'.

This business initiative was timely as SPC Ardmona had been cancelling contracts in the Goulburn Valley and a member of the cider team was required to pull out 6.4 hectares of trees.  Mr Kutrolli firmly stated that "We live in Shepparton and we were drinking pear and apple cider that came from overseas".  This has been a lengthy process and it involved buying new equipment, refining the recipe, research and of course lots of arguments from too many chiefs.

The cider is avilable at Phillips Cellars, Noble Monks, Teller Collective, Fryers St Food Store, Bicaro's, the Overlander Hotel, Cellar 47, Thai Coconut, Hotel Australia, Bullion Bar, Lemon Tree Cafe, Friars Cafe, Bohjass and Stefanos 276.

These local growers should be recognised for the determination to make a local product Shepparton can be proud of.
