Council, in partnership with the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Shepparton Show Me, will be holding events on Saturdays in the Shepparton CBD from 19 November until Christmas Eve to support Saturday afternoon trading.

Businesses in the CBD are encouraged to trade from 9.00am to 4.00pm on Saturdays to attract more people into the centre on weekends.

This initiative is a direction of the Shepparton CBD Strategy (2008) which acknowledges the need to extend retail business hours to increase activity in the CBD on weekends.

Several businesses in the CBD already stay open well after 1pm on Saturdays and have reported great success.

Retailers in the CBD were contacted regarding the promotion and over half of these businesses are happy to remain open for the recommended trading period.

Extended trading hours will allow consumers to have more choice and greater convenience while retailers will gain the benefit of increased activity in the CBD and the ability to attract additional customers.

Activities planned over the promotion period include music, a fashion parade, roving buskers, carriage rides, an animal petting zoo and face painting. CBD retailers are encouraged to spread the word about the promotion to ensure its success.
