Recent unemployment data shows a slight decrease in unepmloyment within the City of Greater Shepparton.

The attached chart shows the unemployment rate of the Greater Shepparton City Council Area compared to other local government areas.

On average it is trending higher than the national average however it is encouraging to see a drop of 0.6 per cent.

This could be attributed to the fruit season casual employment intakes. However as always more can be done to generate sustainable employment outcomes such as the following recent initiatives recently announced this month:

  • Rubicon Water: is a provider of innovative and technologically advanced solutions for improving management of irrigation water and currently  employs 189 people, of which 171 are based in Australia, including 114 in Shepparton. The state Government is helping Rubicon undertake an expansion project worth close to $3.5 million, driving exports and generating 112 new jobs  106 of them in the local area.
  • Goulburn Valley Industry and Infrastructure Fund: A 5 million dollar fund that will leverage new industry, investment and employment opportunities and support a strategic long term plan for the community.
