Greater Shepparton City Council’s Small Township Festive Grants Program is now open to towns with a population of less than 10,000 people. The program will provide funding of up to $2,500 for eight small towns to buy and install festive decorations.

Council's Team Leader Business and Industry Geoff Hay said this was a great opportunity for small towns to decorate their towns this festive season.

"The Festive Grant Program enables small townships to apply for funding that will greatly assist them in creating a festive atmosphere in their area," Mr Hay said.

"Even the simplest decoration such as lighting in the main street can make the world of difference.

"We hope that a number of towns will take this opportunity to apply for funds that will contribute to creating a wonderful festive vibe during the Christmas period.

"The best thing about the grants is that the community can decide what decorations they need and what will suit their specific area."

The Small Township Festive Grants Program closes at 5.00pm on Friday 28 October 2011. Successful applicants will be notified by Tuesday 15 November 2011.
