The Victorian Farmers’ Markets Association is holding a series of free workshops for producers interested in becoming stallholders at farmers’ markets.

Whether you are setting up a new business or exploring alternative sales options, these workshops will provide you with the information to get started in this rewarding and profitable industry.

Greater Shepparton City Council's Small Business Development Officer Lonnie O'Dwyer is thrilled that this workshop is being held in our region.

"The workshop's timing is perfect with our autumn crops coming on and there's nothing better than fresh locally grown produce," said Ms O'Dwyer.

"Here at the business centre we often have people enquiring how they can start small businesses within farmers' markets and this workshop will provide participants with a range of information, issues to consider, and advice on how best to navigate the requirements."

The workshops will broadly cover the following topics:

  • VFMA Accreditation (an industry standard)
  • How to access markets and market managers
  • Compliance information ( permits, insurance etc)
  • Helpful sales techniques
  • Assistance with product development
  • Simple marketing tips
  • How to set up an effective market stall

The popularity of farmers' markets is increasing in the Goulburn Valley with Mooroopna's Farmers Market and the Queen's Gardens Rotary Markets both being held on the 3rd Sunday of the month and the 4th Sunday of every month respectively.

The Shepparton workshop will be held at the Greater Shepparton Business Centre located at 70 New Dookie Rd starting at 10.00am and finishing at 2.00pm on Friday 15 April 2011.
