Australia’s largest supermarket Woolworths is conducting discussions with SPC Ardmona to convert its branded fruit products to locally grown and processed fruit.

This is welcome news to the struggling growers of the Goulburn Valley who were devastated by the SPC Ardmona announcement regarding production intakes earlier this year.

This decision will have an invaluable impact on the region and should be considered a great day for Victorian fruit growers according to Peter Kelly SPC Ardmona’s Managing Director (ABC Radio- Interview). This decision has been a result of SPC Ardmona working cohesively with Woolworths to improve the competiveness of the brands and this decision also shows that a major supermarket like Woolworths is willing to back the Goulburn Valley.

The agreement will commence once the retailer has sold through all of its imported stock,  the supermarket will proceed to be  committed to stocking 100 per cent Australian made fruit. This is exciting and encouraging news and we hope to see further actions of substance from Australia’s largest retailers to support an Australian icon that has been producing a world class product for 150 years.
