The SESR (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) - enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where employers can't source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.
This is a provisional visa with a 5 year validity period, that will allow skilled foreign workers to work in designated regional areas where employers are unable to fill vacant positions with suitably qualified and experienced Australian citizens or permanent residents living in or wishing to move to the regional area.
There are three stages of the Application Assessment process:
1. Sponsorship stage - employer is approved a s a standard business sponsor or has entered into a Labour Agreement that authorises nominations of a SESR visa.
2. Nominations stage - the approved sponsor nominates the position and meets the relevant eligibility requirements.
3. Visa application stage - nominee lodges visa application and meets the relevant requirements.
The Greater Shepparton Business Centre is the Regional Certifying Body (RCB) involved in the Nomination stage of the Application process for:
- City of Greater Shepparton
- Strathbogie Shire
- Murrindindi Shire
- Moira Shire
- Mitchell Shire
The role of the RCB is to provide advice to the Department on the SESR-Employer Sponsored stream nomination application based on the local area knowledge. The purpose of the certification process is to ensure that:
- The vacancy is in regional Victoria
- The position and business is genuine
- The terms and conditions of the positions are no less favourable than those of a similar position.
