Landholders are reminded that they have until April 18 to make a submission to Greater Shepparton City Council regarding proposed changes to rural zonings across the municipality.
The proposed zoning changes are a result of an Amendment to the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme, which implements the Rural Regional Land Use Strategy (RRLUS) recently adopted by Greater Shepparton, Moira and Campaspe councils.
The strategy was developed to ensure a uniform approach to rural land management across the region.
As part of the strategy three new farming zones were proposed: Farming Zone 1 -Growth; Farming Zone 2 - Consolidation; and Farming Zone 3 -Niche.
Council Team Leader Strategic and Community Planning Claire Tarelli said it was important that landholders familiarised themselves with the proposed changes. The Amendment is available on Council's website and is on display at its Welsford St office.
"The changes will affect all land in the Farming Zone," Ms Tarelli said.
"The Amendment includes modified subdivision and dwelling requirements within each category and introduces the Rural Conservation Zone for land near Murchison and around the Dookie hills that has been identified as having environmental significance and value."
Ms Tarelli said Council had received about 250 enquiries to date from landholders who had attended information sessions held earlier this month or who had contacted Council staff directly.
"I encourage landholders to have a good look at the Amendment and, if they have any queries or questions about how the changes may affect them, contact Council to discuss them further," she said.
Ms Tarelli said after submissions closed, Council would consider all submissions and refer them to an independent panel, which would make a final decision. Landowners would have an opportunity to make a presentation to the Panel.
