Greater Shepparton is showing positive signs of growth with substantial local investment and population estimates predicting significant growth for our regional centre.
The current population of Greater Shepparton is estimated to be around 64,000 with a 1.1% average growth rate over the next decade.
This is in line with the 1.3% growth rate of regional Victoria (Victoria in Future 2012).
Shepparton and Mooroopna combined have a current population of 50,373 with a 1.2% growth rate (2010/11). This area will have an estimated population of 63,564 by 2031.
Shepparton is also positioned to service an expanding regional catchment which currently includes 220,000 people extending to Deniliquin, Jerilderie, Echuca, Euroa, Mansfield, Seymour, Benalla and Yarrawonga.
The Greater Shepparton Housing Strategy (adopted in 2009) aims to accommodate this growth through five strategically staged growth corridors. These growth corridors are bound by a settlement boundary that protects valuable surrounding agricultural land. The urban growth corridors combined with managed infill development allows for the provision of an additional 450 dwellings per year over the next twenty years.
