The International Volleyball and Beach carnival was well received by locals and visitors with the variety of food trucks, pop up bars, amusement rides, live music and entertainment pleasing a family friendly audience and showcasing the Victoria Park Lake precinct as a premier events centre.
The event was estimated to generate around $1 million for the region this includes $500,000 in economic stimulation for local businesses with players, coaches and support crew staying up to seven nights while the profiling for the city and international broadcast has been valued at a further $500,000 in value.
Canada took the Women’s title beating Germany in the final with Australia claiming Bronze. In the men’s Australia won the gold and silver with New Zealand taking the bronze. This was the first time Australia had won a world tour event since 2001.
Shepparton was profiled globally for Sunday’s finals with views on the live stream from right around the world. Fox Sports also showcased the finals on Sunday afternoon.
The Beach Volleyball World Tour will be back in 2018 with it being a key lead in event to the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
