On 27 April 2023 Minister for Home Affairs, Claire O’Neil released ‘A Migration System for a More Secure and Prosperous Australia’, an Outline of the Government’s Migration Strategy.

The Migration Strategy Outline maps the Government’s approach for a better targeted, more efficient and outcomes-focused migration system.

The Outline will be used to facilitate consultation in the development of the Government’s Migration Strategy and is informed by the Migration Review, including the 483 public submissions received as part of the review.

In May and June, targeted consultations will be held with stakeholders including state and territory governments, unions, industry, migrant and civil society groups.

The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) increases were announced with effect from 1 July 2023, raising the TSMIT from $53,900 to $70,000, however the Department is still working through implementation of this policy in relation to labour agreements, including GV DAMA.

You can view the strategy on the Home Affairs website.
