The Greater Shepparton Community Literacy Workgroup is again gearing up to launch ‘A Cuppa 4 Our Kids’ this August and is inviting your workplace to be part of this special event.
The event aims to raise funds for the local Best Start Book Bag program which provides a book bag full of early literacy resources to babies and children aged 4 weeks, 8 months, 18 months and 3 ½ years through their Maternal and Child Health nurse.
Local businesses, organisations, community groups, schools and early childhood centre's are encouraged to register their workplace to hold a morning tea event during the month of August or specifically during Children's Book Week, which runs from 16 to 22 August, to help raise funds for the program.
Over 2600 book bags were distributed to children through the Greater Shepparton Maternal and Child Health service and local family support officers in 2013. The book bags include a story book, nursery rhymes, play activity sheets, library information and membership forms and a parent information booklet. The program won a state-wide award in 2009 and relies solely on donations from the local community to continue.
