A new child employment licensing system came into effect on 1 July 2023, replacing the old permit system.
If your business employs children under 15, you will likely need a licence regardless of whether the work is paid or voluntary. Employing a child without a licence is a crime and penalties can apply.
A business can employ multiple children under the one licence. They last for up to 2 years and are free.
If your business already has permits issued prior to 1 July 2023, they will remain valid until their expiry date. After their expiry date, a licence application will need to be lodged.
