An investigation has found Italian tomatoes are being dumped into Australian market. The anti-dumping commission indicated that Australian processor, SPC Ardmona, is being harmed by unfairly cheap imports and recommended new tariffs be imposed.

Extra duties of between six and ten per cent will be applied  on offending Italian tomato brands until at least the beginning of next year.

SPC Ardmona's managing director, Peter Kelly, says the ruling is great news for the struggling fruit and vegetable manufacturer. "It just makes me a bit sad that, that damage has been done for so long. But we're there now," he said."I don't know, nine or ten different Italian exporters have been breaking the rules. This I think puts pay to the argument that SPC should just go off quietly and close down things because we just can't compete. This proves that people have been cheating the system and trading unfairly and that what we've been saying all along so I am happy that's come through." Another report into South African peaches says there may be a case of dumping but has deferred its decision until early next year.

This is encouraging news for SPC Ardmona and we wish them well and encourage all residents to support their campaign by clicking on the link below.
