Street stalls and free children’s rides will feature in the upcoming Winter City Market in Shepparton’s central business district on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 August.

Traders will be displaying their stock in and around the Maude Street Mall, and businesses from outside the CBD are also being encouraged to join in and will be given first option to set up a stall free of charge.

The Winter City Market, which is sponsored by Greater Shepparton City Council and Shepparton Show Me, is part of a comprehensive effort to encourage business development and vibrancy in Shepparton’s CBD.

“The Winter City Market will provide a great opportunity for traders to showcase their great products and prices, and shoppers will be able to pick up bargains in a fun atmosphere,” said Mayor Michael Polan. “There will be family friendly entertainment including free children’s rides, music, buskers and street performers.”

Cr Polan said that the Winter City Market was the result of collaboration between Council, Shepparton Show Me, the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and representatives from the retail sector.

“The event has typically been a highlight for businesses and shoppers alike and attracts an influx of local shoppers,” he said.

“People from surrounding areas come, hoping to snap up some fantastic bargains over the two days.”

“We hope that once shoppers have come in and seen what Shepparton has to offer, in a relaxing atmosphere, they will keep coming back.”

Cr Polan said that events like the market provided another dimension to Council’s commitment to revitalising the CBD.

“Making our CBD an even better place to shop requires a joint effort, and the Winter City Market is an encouraging example of that,” he said.

Shepparton Show Me Chair Councillor Cherie Crawford said Shepparton Show Me and Council have been working closely with retailers to ensure the Winter City Market remains an exciting and prime shopping experience for all.

“Retailers and shoppers know this event is all about bargains, and they know they need to deliver colour, vibrancy, and family fun and entertainment,” Cr Crawford said.
