Council was host to 14 guests from metropolitan Melbourne over the weekend of 14 & 15 June for the “Welcome to Greater Shepparton” Open day.

We first met our guests in April at the 2014 Regional Victoria Living Expo in Melbourne where they had the opportunity to learn about Regional Victoria and the lifestyle changes that were on offer should they relocate.

So now Greater Shepparton is on their radar, and they are thinking of moving to our region for new employment opportunities, the affordable housing and to soak up the fresh country air and relaxed lifestyle.

The Investment Attraction team organised the weekend and planned an exciting yet relaxed program to give our guests a real taste of what Greater Shepparton has to offer.

Over the two days they experienced The Farmers Market in Mooroopna; shopping at the factory sales outlets; the scenic drive to Dookie for a sample of some delicious local produce; our beautiful Victoria Park Lake while enjoying a BBQ lunch; the abundance of fun to be had at Kidstown; shopping, food tasting and fun activities at 'Leisure Land' and so much more.

We took them on a tour which included the CBD, GV Health, Visitor Information Centre, and primary, secondary and tertiary education facilities. They also had an opportunity to browse some local Real Estate Agents windows and to meet with local recruitment specialists to discuss employment opportunities.

We have had very positive feedback from the guests:

"Thanks for a great weekend; we enjoyed having a closer look at Shepparton. We particularly enjoyed the lunch on Saturday where we met Carmel Johnson who is obviously very well connected in the Shepparton community. She was able to steer me in the right direction for future employment with schools and names of who to contact. Very useful indeed! The tour on Sunday was excellent. For me, seeing the location of schools and what they actually look like was great" Susan (Music and Japanese teacher).

"It was indeed a wonderful time that my family and I spent at Shepparton. We surely came back with beautiful memories of the place. We also appreciate that the tour was very well organised and conducted. This tour has made us fall in love with the place and people. We would be very excited to be a part of Shepparton and look forward to settling there soon". Raashid (CPA)

We will continue to assist our guests where we can with any information they need to facilitate their move to our region.
