Shepparton businesses are gearing up for the business community’s night of nights. The Gala Presentation Dinner for the 2011 Business & Services Awards will be held on Friday, October 21 at the GV Hotel starting at 6.30pm.

The awards acknowledges and rewards those nominated in seven categories including excellence in service, business and tourism as well as apprentice of the year, trainee of the year and a workforce development award. A new category this year - sponsored by the Greater Shepparton Business Centre - is Best New Business Award.

A business will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame on the night.

The award nominations have been open since May and the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce president Howard Forster said they were thrilled with the amount of nominations.

"Our economy over the past few years has been difficult for some businesses however some are still achieving remarkable results and we think it's important to recognise those businesses and individuals who are leading the way for others to follow," Howard said.

"Shepparton really does have some quality businesses and the award evening is a night to celebrate industry and network for future improvements."

Nominee Luke Van De Paverd from VeerUp Website Design was nominated for Best Service Award.

"The award came to me as a surprise," Luke said. "For customers to nominate me for my service was an honour especially when I work alone; having that sort of recognition inspires me to improve my service even more. I am really looking forward to the night."

More than 400 people are expected to attend the event - which will be hosted by WIN News presenter Bruce Roberts - and enjoy a great night of fine food, wine and entertainment.
