The festive spirit has truly come to life in the Mall over the last few weeks with gorgeous decorations adorning the awnings along with festive music and events attracting families and friends to shop longer and more often in the CBD.

Terry Lanyon from Kevin Hicks Real Estate said local traders were generally feeling optimistic despite the current challenging global economic climate.

"Christmas trade to date is better than this time last year and we still have just less than two weeks to go before Christmas," he said. "So it appears that there is a bit more confidence out there."

Retailers, particularly in the Mall precinct, are excited about three businesses soon to open their doors.

A prominent jeweller will be operating from the Target arcade entrance, formally Williams Shoes Store.

Brown Sugar is also set to reopen where their previous outlet was opposite Target Arcade in the Mall.

"This is a great outcome for Brown Sugar who will add to the range of fashion opportunities that already exist within the Mall" said Mr Lanyon.

Also The Laboratory women's fashion has recently opened located in Fraser Street.

Geoff Hay, Team Leader Business and Industry for the Greater Shepparton City Council, said this very welcoming news.

"While there is no doubt that the retail sector across Australia is still facing some challenges, news of new businesses coming into Shepparton indicates some optimism and something we need to promote" said Mr Hay.

"We have also recently had the discount store Spare Change arrive in Shepparton - with 11 stores across regions of Victoria, and they now have one here too."

Spare Change was founded in Thomastown, Victoria in 2005 and after experiencing six years of rapid growth are continuing to identify regions that offer expansion opportunities.
