A new fitness trend has hit Mooroopna with the GV Functional Fitness Studio opening.

George Moutafis encouraged by his daughter to get physical again decided to take a leap of faith. He sold his cafe and ventured into a whole new world. "In 2005, thanks to my eldest daughter Stacey, who took up Taekwondo, I also decided to "give it a go". Martial arts always intrigued me, but I never seemed to get around to committing myself. As a self confessed perfectionist, if I cannot commit to something with 100% dedication, I will not even attempt it. George said.

As a teenager George had an interest in weight training, amongst other sports, and this interest lasted into adult life. Unfortunately ended up with arthritis in both shoulders which gradually ended his sport.

After 12 months of taekwondo training, George noticed he was moving better and generally had more energy. This was due to the type of movement he performed at training.

Functional movement training is a style that facilitates the body's everyday movement patterns.

GV Functional Fitness Studio opened in October and the new facility has no traditional weight machines , movement patterns and core strength training is the focus.

"As the concept is still new, it will take some time for people to come to terms with the idea." Personal training, functional movement cardio or strength classes, are on offer.

George is enjoying his new career and hopes people will drop in to his studio all are welcome just to check out how we train for fun and fitness.
