Council's Tourism and Events team are really building a strong reputation as a destination for events and tourism and starting to get somewhere to dispel the myths that we are not a tourist destination.

On Monday 29 February, Greater Shepparton City Council Tourism and Events team hosted a luncheon where local businesses were updated on the latest developments with the new Shepparton Art Museum Project, a preview of the Shepparton Festival and the launch of the 2016 Tourism and Events Calendar. Those in attendance heard firsthand how Council's Tourism and Events team are working hard to establish Greater Shepparton as a key events destination in Victoria and indeed regional Australia.

 Presentation summary included:

  • 2014/15 saw 75 major events with over 240,000 attendees
  • 95,800 external visitors from outside Greater Shepparton
  • Economic impact of $35.8 million
  • Helping support around 250 ongoing jobs from Council's investment in the major events program.
