Greater Shepparton City Council held information sessions last week seeking feedback from local communities and businesses on the Draft Murray Darling Basin Plan in order to inform its submission to the Murray Darling Basin Authority.

A presentation covering the key points of the Draft Basin Plan was given and discussions facilitated. The information presented and feedback received will form the basis of Council's submission on the draft plan.

Economic Development Manager Geraldine Christou was pleased with the attendance and feedback given.

"Although the number of attendees was lower than anticipated, the forums provided an excellent opportunity to improve stakeholders' understanding of the Draft Murray Darling Basin Plan and capture their perspectives.

"The feedback captured from the sessions will ensure that Council's submission is well thought through and has a good prospect of informing and influencing government decisions in relation to the development and implementation of the Basin Plan".

"It's important we host community consultations and engage with all industry's that will be affected by the proposed drafted plan. This was an opportunity to put forward any concerns, suggestions or support".

"We need to present an accurate representation of the community's needs for water allocation and how the drafted plan will impact on the greater communities."

Those people who were unable to attend the two sessions can still provide feedback via Council's website.

The sessions were hosted by Greater Shepparton City Council through its partnership with other regional municipalities, and is independent from the Murray Darling Basin Authority.
