Most business owners know that cash flow is the life blood of their enterprise. However, keeping that heart of the business pumping is harder than you’d think.

Greater Shepparton City Council is assisting small businesses by offering a seminar this month to small businesses to learn how to keep the cash flowing, and how to avoid tying cash up in stock or customers.

"Many businesses with great products and flair can find themselves in trouble when the cash flow runs dry," said Peter Barclay, Small Business Officer at Greater Shepparton City Council's Business Centre. "The financial success of your business really depends on being able to manage stock, customers and suppliers."

The seminar "Improving Cash Flow and Profitability" will be held on Wednesday 19 September at 6pm at the Greater Shepparton Business Centre, and is one of a series of seminars that Council has run to support local businesses.
"Economic development in Greater Shepparton is a high priority for Council," Mr Barclay said. "We recognise that small businesses are an important part of that economic development, and the Business Centre is an effective incubator for businesses which are starting up and need that little bit of extra support in the early days while they get established."

The presenter of the seminar will be Jan Barned, who has worked in a variety of roles in the international and Australian finance industry for over twenty years. She currently runs a successful consulting business, providing financial and risk management advisory services to small and medium business (SME).

A specialist in cash flow forecasting and cash flow management, Jan has provided assistance to many small the medium enterprises, to enable them to manage cash flow crises and improve accuracy in cash flow forecasting.
