Greater Shepparton City Council is currently conducting a survey of businesses across the municipality.

Council's Acting Manager Economic Development Leanne Mulcahy said the survey is part of a Business Expansion and Retention program designed to support and encourage economic and business development by discovering the barriers to survival and growth that face local businesses.

"The survey aims to formulate an up-to-date profile of the local economy, identify strengths and potential growth areas for local businesses, assist local business with solving problems and explore new employment opportunities in the region," Ms Mulcahy said.

"Existing local businesses are important for generating continued economic activity and new jobs in our economy.

"This survey is an important mechanism which assists us in listening to, and helping businesses to do better.

"The ideas and issues raised through the survey process will be used by Council to develop appropriate programs and services for businesses.

"We have also included options for businesses if they would like to be contacted with more information about a particular program or service.

"It is anticipated the survey will take approximately five minutes to complete.

"It is crucial that we have a high participation rate in this survey if the results are to be of value to our business community."

A report covering the findings and recommendations of the survey will be published on Council's website and will be available to all members of the community in hard copy on request.

Surveys are currently being distributed to businesses within the municipality and are also available online.

Completed surveys must be returned to the Council by Monday 31 May.
